Jared Field, Editor

Jared is a Flint-native and has lived here all his life.  He is a 1998 graduate of Flint Carman-Ainsworth High School, a 2004 graduate of the University of Michigan-Flint with a BA in Political Science.  He received his master's degree in social science (global studies) from UM-Flint in 2006. Currently, Jared is a writer in the sports department at the Flint Journal as well as the author of Mlive's "Hotbed Hoops" blog. He has also worked for the University as a research assistant, and as a writer for Habitat for Humanity International and the Albany Herald (Ga.). His favorite basketball teams are the Pistons, the Michigan State University Spartans and the Flint Carman-Ainsworth Cavaliers.  Apart from editing, Jared specializes in covering showcase games in Flint, Saginaw and Lansing. He is also entering his second season as beat writer for the top junior college basketball program in the nation--Mott Community College.

Gavin Raath, Associate Editor

Gavin is now in his third year as GLH's associate editor. He was born in Oklahoma City and lived in Little Rock, Arkansas and Calgary, Alberta before coming to Michigan in 1997. Raath is a graduated with a BA in political science from Olivet Nazarene University in 2004 and just recently completed his MPA at the University of Michigan-Flint. Gavin handles GLH's conference previews, rankings, player analysis, etc.

Marcellus Miller, Columnist

Marcellus was born and bred in Flint and is proud of that fact.  He received his K-12 education through the Flint school system at Doyle-Ryder Elementary School, Longfellow Middle School and Flint Central High School.  He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2004 from the University of Michigan-Flint.  When he is not working on this site, he works as a shipping/receiving manager for Schneider Logistics.  His favorite hoop squads are the Flint Central Indians (they will always be the Indians in his book), the University of Michigan Wolverines, and the Miami Heat.  He has coached youth basketball in Flint since the age of 14, in addition to participating in various adult basketball leagues--including several years in the Flint City Pro-Am.  He is the author of the weekly CityBeat column during the MHSAA basketball season.  A little-known fact about him is that he has had several original poems published and aspires to have a book of poetry published one day soon.

Nick Brzezinski, Contributing Writer

Nick Brzezinski, a Bay City native, graduated from Bay City All Saints High School in 1999.  He then Graduated from Central Michigan University in 2003 (Fire Up Chips!) with a BAA in Sports Studies and minors in Marketing and Journalism. He started as an Intern in 2002 with the Saginaw Spirit and has lived in the Lansing Area since 2003 where he works for the Lansing Lugnuts as a Corporate Account Executive.  His favorite college basketball teams are CMU, MSU, and enjoys watching any team across the country that has a kid from the state of Michigan playing for them.  He covers games in the Lansing Area as well as the Saginaw/Bay City Area for Great Lakes Hoops.

Josh Glitz, Contributing Writer

Josh is a resident of Grand Blanc, Michigan, a 2005 graduate of Grand Blanc high school and a second-year college student at the University of Michigan-Flint.  Josh's favorite basketball team is, of course, the Detroit Pistons.  Josh will covers the Big Nine Conference as well as showcase games outside of Mid-Michigan.  Josh spent the summer of 2006 working for SOS, an inner city community development program in Memphis, Tennessee.  Currently, Josh is working for Cage Sports in Swartz Creek.

Andrew Bolton, Contributing Writer

Andrew is a 2005 graduate of Grand Blanc high school and is currently a junior at the University of Michigan in Flint.  For GLH, Andrew covers Genesee County. 

Matthew Peterfi, Contributing Writer

Matthew, another Flint-area native, graduated from Burton Bendle High School in 2004.  He is Pre-Law at Michigan State University in East Lansing, where he will be graduating in 2008.  He loves what he calls "the most pure" of all levels of sports, high school.  Being the son of a coach, Matthew has been around sports his whole life.  His favorite basketball team, since childhood, has been the Michigan State University Spartans.  Matthew covers the goings-on within the MHSAA, Genesee Area Conference in greater Flint and the CAAC in Lansing for GLH.

Tom Jones, Contributing Writer

Tom was born in Alabama in 1977 and moved to Michigan when was was six years old--he has lived here ever since. He graduated from Genesee Christian High School in 1995. After graduation, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Communications from Rochester College. Tom married his wife Melissa in 2000. He has one daughter, Madison, who was born in November of 2004. He is employed, along with GLH columnist Marcellus Miller, at Schneider Logistics. Tom is a big Indiana Hoosier basketball fan but also roots for the Spartans. He started following local high school basketball in about 10th grade and has ever since.  "It's not unusual" to see Tom covering the Big Nine and the GAC conferences.

Andrew Hall, Webmaster

Andrew, a Flinttown resident until 1996, currently resides in Flushing, Michigan.  Andrew is a 1999 graduate of Flushing High School and a lifetime student thanks to his chosen career field.  Andrew is the Director of Information Technology for a large franchise company based out of Michigan.  He is a huge Pistons fan and hopes to become a high school and college hoops junkie like the rest of the fellows involved in GLH.  Without Andrew this site would look like a 9-year-old's "myspace" page.
