Several area players had huge games last night. Here is just a sampling:
--Unsigned senior Steve Wilmers (right) scored 18 points for the second game in a row for Lapeer East. This time around, however, the 6-5 swingman made an assault on the stat book with 15 rebounds, nine steals and five blocks in the Eagles' Metro League share clinching victory over Oxford. Wilmers is a once-in-a-decade type of athlete in the Flint Metro League.
--Swartz Creek junior Russell Hope led the Dragons out of a 14-point second half deficit in a conference win over Holly. The savvy point guard had 13 points, seven assists and four steals.
--Nic Frayer poured in 32 points in Haslett's overtime win over Eaton Rapids. Frayer, also and unsigned senior, is one of the top 3-point marksmen in Lansing.
--Brad Redford's performance was
just a little better than average in a win over Vassar--50 points and 10-10 from
the foul line which extends his streak to 102 straight. He is just 24 free
throws shy of the national record.
--Speaking of the freebies, Mt. Pleasant swished 21-of-21 free throws in the second half of their win over Midland High Friday night.
--Birch Run's Dakotah Ellis and Jordan Duby split 46 points and 13 rebounds last night in a win over Millington. Ellis is one of the top juniors in mid-Michigan--a 6-5 forward with shooting guard skill.
--Freshman phenom LaDontae Hinton led all scorers with 20 points for Lansing Eastern in an upset victory over Grand Ledge. Henton is a high-major talent with three years to develop an outside shot. I'll bet he gets it done.
--Burton Bentley's Cory Mouser scored 25 points in just over two and half quarters in dominating win over Burton Bendle. The output is the senior's career-high.
--Garrett Yatch and Matt Peterson shared 45 points in Midland Bullock Creek's 30-point win over an exposed Hemlock squad.
--Travis Bader led Okemos with
19 points in their upset victory over a faltering East Lansing.

--Goodrich's Andrew Patrick just beat out Mt. Morris' Todd Reimund for game-high honors with 24 in the Martians win over the Panthers. Patrick, who burst on the scene last season as a freshman, is capable of scoring in bunches and is starting to show that trait once again. Goodrich is rounding into form as their inevitable clash with Flint Powers in districts looms on the horizon.
--Junior guard Travis Forsmark led Genesee Christian to a six-point win over Ann Arbor Greenhills with 22 points. Senior guard Zac Goodspeed followed up his 24-point performance versus Lansing Christian on Tuesday with 18 more.
--Lansing Catholic, steered by one of the top coaches in Michigan, Darren Zwick, just keeps rolling. They are now 9-0 in the CAAC-White and 13-3 overall after a five-point win over Portland. With Nichols, Gover, Repovz, Murray and Duda all healthy, this looks like a dangerous team for the playoffs.
--Colton Odey led all scorers with 24 points but Luc Bonner's 19 won out in North Branch's 65-64 win over Caro.
