Mid-Michigan Standouts

Travis Bader 6-0 2009 Okemos Camp Darryl

Quickly turning into one of the top marksmen in his class. Shot the lights out in Vegas last week and didn't lose his shooting touch on the flight home. Made 12 3-pointers in two games Saturday. Is currently receiving interest from the GLIAC.

Taron Boose  6’2”  2010  Beecher  Michigan Mustangs (right)

I would love to check his birth certificate to see if he’s actually 15. He’s an absolute freak that could be seen throwing down on opponents left and right. Has a naturally muscular frame, which allows to bully opponents and to fly up and down the court. It’s up to him how far he goes with God-given ability.

Jordan Fowler  5’10”  2009  Holly  Michigan Mustangs

He got the call-up from Common Bond and looked like he belonged. He's about as savvy of a floor general as you will find in the class of 2009.

Kai Goldynia 6'1'' 2009 Okemos Camp Darryl-Royal

Continued his hot shooting from Vegas last week with nine made 3-point baskets in two games. Extremely confident stroke. Should provide Okemos with some much-needed scoring punch this season.

Max Gover  6’4”  2008  Lansing Catholic Central  Mid-Michigan Lakers (right)

Always active, especially on offense whether it’s from deep, in the lane or posting up. It was weird to watch him go at it with former Lansing Catholic teammate Aaron Nichols.

Donte Hinton  6’4”  2011  Lansing Sexton   Michigan Mustangs

Big-time freak. He’s stronger and bouncier than anyone in his class and is better at this stage than Dee Chapman (Flint Carman-Ainsworth) was.

Bryan Horn  5’10”  2008  Lansing Waverly  Showtime

He’s a strong and athletic guard that doesn’t look like he would be skilled, but can still hurt you from deep.

Jordan Howenstine  6’1”  2009  Lansing Sexton  Showtime

It was good to see this talented guard back in action after sitting out the ’07 season. He’s quick and kind of reminded me of a poor man’s Peter Bunn. Howenstine will be attending Lansing Sexton this fall.

Chris Hutton  6’0”  2008  Lapeer West  Mid-Michigan Lakers

A great effort guy despite his natural ability. Gives it his all on defense and is turning into a real threat to opposing ball handlers. Always has been a great scorer, particularly from deep. He’s got that great natural touch from range that allows him to hit even when he’s a little off-balance. Improving as a floor general, but still has some lessons to learn in transition.

Andrew Jackson 6'1'' 2008 East Lansing Camp Darryl

Not your prototype post player at 6-1, but is as hardnosed as they come. Will be under center for the Trojans football team in the fall.

Tony Jones  5’10”  2010  Grand Blanc  Michigan Mustangs

A smooth point guard that lacks the bad habits that are common to AAU ball, like dribbling too much and poor shot selection. Also one of the top track athletes in the country for his age group.

Maurice Jones-Cooper  5’6”  2010  Saginaw Arthur Hill  Michigan Mustangs

If he were 6’0”, he might just be ready for the NBA. This guy has the ball on a string and is two or three steps ahead of everyone around him.

Zach Kramer 6'1'' 2009 Holt Camp Darryl

Cut from the same cloth as Holt's Joe Powers. Hard worker who managed double-figures in rebounds in both games. Can take a charge with the best of them.

Jaylen Larry  6’5”  2010  Flint Carman Ainsworth  Michigan Mustangs

Big man with a soft touch. Should pair with Courtland Patterson and Dee Chapman to make a formidable, but young frontline.

Patrick Lucas-Perry  5’10”  2011  Flint Powers Catholic  Michigan Mustangs

Looks way to smooth for his age. Smart with the ball and an opportunist on defense. Has an almost unnatural high release on his shot, like

Deandre Upchurch of Flint Northwestern, but it usually finds the bottom of the net.

Demetrius Miller  5’11”  2009  Flint Central  Mid-Michigan Lakers

Quick as a cat and a top flight finisher. Automatic in transition and a nightmare to any man-to-man defense.

Rashawn Molden 6'3'' 2008 Holt Camp Darryl

Scored 25 points and pulled down seven boards against the Toledo Vipers in a comeback victory. The slinky Molden is a tough enough cover without the consistent three-point shot he seems to have added to his repertoire.

Shane Moreland  6’2”  2009  Flint Powers Catholic Central  Michigan Mustangs

An energetic guy that seems to be leading a fast-break every time I watch the U-16 Mustangs. Very good defender and an assassin from range.

Tyler Moreland  6’2”  2008  Flint Powers Catholic Central  Mid-Michigan Lakers (upper right)

He played as well as I have ever seen. It’s becoming more and more evident to me that the big thing separating him from his peers is his coordination. He’s a top-tier finisher and finished three lay-ups within a span of five minutes over Lansing Waverly's Zach Saylor. Great ball-handler, a terror in the passing lanes and easily one of the savviest players at Aim High. Officially a mid-major prospect.

Latreze Mushatt  6’5”  2008  Saginaw Arthur Hill  Michigan Mustangs (right)

He looks like a leader on the Mustangs. I rarely see him making the ‘wow’ plays of some of his teammates, but he provides the intangibles that keep this program a winner. He’s good at doing a little bit of everything.

Aaron Nichols  6’1”  2007  Lansing Catholic Central  Showtime

It was good to see Aaron back on the floor. Word has it that he’s going to be walking on at Notre Dame next season. He deferred to his teammates for most of the day, but took over when he desired. Sure, he's a senior, but keep in mind that he is still only 17.

Austin Nichols 5'11'' 2009 Lansing Catholic Central Camp Darryl

Capping off an excellent summer with 28 points in a game Saturday. May turn out to be better than his brother. In a word: SMART

Joe Powers  6’2”  2008  Holt  Camp Darryl (right)

He looks leaner than he was last season and it’s affected his game for the better. He plays with a lot of poise and looks natural running the point and setting up his teammates. His game is starting to draw some division two interest.

Sean Romsek  6’2”  2008  Fowlerville  Camp Darryl

A smooth player on both ends. He did fine running the point at times, and as usual knocked down multiple jumpers. He is getting low-major division one interest and division two courtiers.

Zach Saylor  6’8”  2008  Lansing Waverly  Showtime (lower right)

Waverly’s big man is everything you want in a post. Uses his height well on both ends and has the strength to move bodies around. He possesses the ability to score facing up, but has a nice touch on the blocks.

Brian Sheridan  6’4”  2009  New Lothrop  Mid-Michigan Lakers

With Terrance Keaton absent, Brian filled in nicely at center for the Lakers. He’s got a strong base, which allows him to battle taller opponents and make the most of his opportunities.

Eric Smith 5'11'' 2009 East Lansing Camp Darryl

Smith, a recent transfer away from Okemos, slashed to the bucket for several tough buckets late CDBA's two point loss to the Mustangs. Should make for a nice point guard option for EL. Played varsity as a sophomore at Okemos.

Devon Weaver  6’5”  2008  Flint Northwestern  Mid-Michigan Lakers

Devon is slowly beginning to turn into an impact player. He was under 6’0” just over a year ago and is blossoming nicely into his body. He was dominant on the boards Saturday using his length and hops and is starting to look like a potential wing forward. He grabbed 25 rebounds in the Lakers' two wins. Time in the weight room is a must.
